WHAT IS HBR?
Health by Ratio is an online physical therapy and functional movement program that helps people be healthy and fit. We have physical therapy, corrective exercise, functional mobility & strength, and nutrition coaching. Our team creates customized programs for people to follow so they can become and stay healthy by helping prevent getting injured in the future again.
WHAT IS THE HOLISTIC APPROACH WITH PHYSICAL THERAPY AND WHAT CAN IT DO FOR ME?
We don't just focus on the pain when we treat people. We also look at where the person's body is imbalanced and how they are compensating. This can help us fix the problem and reduce pain in the long run. We can also live more active lives without as much pain by doing this.
HOW DOES ONLINE PHYSICAL THERAPY COACHING WORK?
We offer a full range of services to our clients, including 1-on-1 video coaching sessions, as well as unique mobility and exercise programs linked to step-by-step videos. We also integrate group training through daily video meetings accessible to all members of Health By Ratio.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST APPOINTMENT/ASSESSMENT?
It's completely FREE!
We begin with a series of safe and functional movement screenings and range of motion assessments based on what you're attempting to heal, the activities you do on a daily basis, as well as your future goals.
Next, we will review all the assessments with you so that you understand how and why your body is moving the way it does. This includes explanations of where potential compensations and/or imbalances are coming from.
Finally, we will create a game plan on what specific mobility and exercise techniques you need to do to achieve your health and fitness goals.

CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP WITH SCIATICA?
Sciatica and lower back pain are one of the most frequent and distressing pains we can experience.
It was something I had dealt with for years whenever I drove or sat down for more than 20-30 minutes, making it difficult to drive in lovely LA traffic that takes 9 hours for every 10 miles traveled.
It's also something that my staff and I have been able to assist an extraordinary number of our customers with.
For some people, sitting is difficult; for others, it's when they go for a walk for too long or attempt to sleep.
They are in a similar position to me when they come to us because they felt like they had exhausted all possible options in order to get healthy:

All of these therapies can make a difference on the spot, but there is a problem: they seldom address the core reasons for our sciatica or lower back pain. Instead, they are focused on relieving symptoms right now.
This immediate relief can be great when we are seriously debating on whether it is worth it or not to self-amputate our leg with a butter knife.
But in the long run, when we want to get back to our normal lives, symptom chasing isn't enough.

For me, the root causes of my back pain were a combination of what was happening in my feet, ankles, and hips. This caused an over-arching of my lumbar vertebrae and compression of my hip capsules.
Some of our clients have a problem because their thoracic spine and shoulder girdle are overly compressed. This makes their lumbar spine lose its natural curvature, which causes them to tilt their pelvis backward.
